Are there any other people in your family in construction?

I am the only person in my family officially in construction, but I grew up on a farm in Ohio and was constantly surrounded by construction. On the farm everyone had to work on building projects and there was usually one big one every summer. My favorite was the year we built two Butler grain bins. As a kid my job was only to hold the bolts but it was thrilling to see them be built. Thirty plus years later they are still in use.

If you were not working in the construction industry what would you like to work in?

I would love to write for Sesame Street although I am not certain I have the skills for that!

Why did you join NAWIC?

I joined NAWIC to build stronger relationships with the people that build our projects. Understanding the struggles of construction makes me a better designer and partner in our projects. After all we can’t make our ideas come to life – only the contractor and subs can make that happen!

What is your favorite part about being a NAWIC Member?

I love the size of NAWIC and that you can make deep and meaningful connections with people.

What would you tell anyone who is thinking about joining NAWIC?

Try it! What do you have to lose? I can promise you you will find an open and welcoming group at our events.

What are your hobbies/interests?

Every year I design and sew an outfit for the IIDA Fashion Show. In 2017 I was crazy enough to get on stage and model my creation.
