WIC Week - Rosie's Place Volunteer Night

March 9, 2016

As part of WIC Week, NAWIC Members took some time to give back to the community last night with an evening of volunteerism at Rosies Place.

When Rosie's Place first opened its doors in 1974, the organization was run entirely by volunteers. Today, volunteers contribute nearly 60,000 hours annually, the equivalent of 30 full-time employees.

Rosie's Place was founded as the first women’s shelter in the United States. Their mission is to provide a safe and nurturing environment that helps poor and homeless women maintain their dignity, seek opportunity and find security in their lives.

Every year, Rosie’s Place meets thousands of poor and homeless women with thousands of unique needs and challenges. Some can be remedied immediately and some will be long-term processes. They offer a constellation of programs for poor and homeless women including emergency services, language and literacy classes, assitance with job and housing searchs, advocacy services, and outreach services.
